She trained in Breast Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Centre Singapore and completed her Singhealth HMDP Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery – a subspecialty that incorporates breast surgical oncology with plastic surgical techniques for partial and postmastectomy breast reconstruction in breast cancer surgery, at the Nottingham Breast Institute, UK. She aims to contribute to the multidisciplinary care for each patient with breast cancer – to offer surgical expertise in breast surgical oncology and breast remodelling / reconstruction, such that every patient may have surgical options individualised for her. Active in research and teaching, Dr Tan holds a Masters of Science (Research) and teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students from the NUS and Duke-NUS medical schools. She has presented at numerous international and local conferences, and also published scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. Her clinical research interests currently include the surgical management of the breast and axilla in the era of neoadjuvant systemic for breast cancer and breast cancer in young women. She has been Chair of the National Healthcare Group Domain-Specific Ethics Review Board B since 2008. She is also a member of the Singapore Ministry of Health Drug Advisory Committee for Oncology drugs. She specializes in breast cancer and directs the Cancer Genetics program at the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore. Her research focus is on breast cancer, pharmacogenetics and cancer genetics, and she has been the Principal Investigator of more than 40 industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated breast cancer clinical trials. He moved to Belgium and did an internship in general and plastic surgery at the various hospitals of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB). Then he was part of the academic staff of the Hospital in Glasgow Canniesburn engaged in microsurgery and breast reconstruction between 1996-1997. Between 1999 and 2011, Professor Hamdi was one of staff members of the Plastic Surgery Department in Gent University Hospital where he also presented his doctoral thesis for pedicled Flaps in Breast Surgery: a new concept. In 2005 he again sought other horizons and worked three months along with the staff of the PACES Clinic in Atlanta. There he focused mainly on aesthetic surgery of the eyelids and facial rejuvenation. Since 1 April 2011, Moustapha Hamdi worked as a department head in the department of plastic surgery of the Brussels University Hospital.
