He is a previous chair of the NCRI Advanced Breast Cancer subgroup, which oversees trials for advanced breast cancer in the UK. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. She has gained multiple awards in various local and international meetings including the “Uccio Querci della Rovere Award” of The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2019, “Young Investigator Awards” of Hong Kong international Cancer Congress in 2006 and 2008. Experienced in a wide range of breast procedures, she performs breast biopsies including vacuum assisted biopsies (VAB) and breast cancer surgeries, from breast conserving cancer surgery to mastectomies including skin-sparing, nipple sparing and endoscopic mastectomy for breast reconstruction. She works with a multi-disciplinary team including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, breast cancer nurses, occupational therapists to provide our breast cancer patients a holistic and individualised care plan that they deserve. Dr. Cortes was the Head of the Breast Cancer Program at IOB Institute of Oncology, Quironsalud group, in both Madrid and Barcelona, from 2011 to September 2020. Actually, Dr. Cortés is the Head of the International Breast Cancer Centre (IBCC) in Barcelona, founding partner of Medica Scientia innovation Research (MedSIR), a company involved in the clinical development of clinical trials, and Senior Clinical Investigator of the Breast Cancer Research Program at Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology. In addition to his medical specialties, he has two master degrees in “Medical Direction and Clinical Management” by the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) and “Research methodology in Health Sciences” by the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona and a degree in “Statistics in Health Sciences” by the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona. In addition, she is also a co-investigator in various clinical trials on new cancer treatments. These include the CompLEEment-1 trial study that were presented in ASCO 2019 (American Society of Medical Oncology) and ESMO 2018 (European Society for Medical Oncology) meetings. He is an alumnus of the Clinical Cancer Genetics Community of Practice Intensive Course in Cancer Risk Assessment conducted by the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center, and currently runs the Cancer Genetics Clinic at NCIS. He also sits on the committee for the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign at the institutional and national level, to help drive greater awareness for breast cancer screening and prevention in the general public. Dr Samuel Ow strongly believes in the importance of training the next generation of physicians. He is an Assistant Professor on the Clinician-Educator track at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and is currently the Associate Program Director of the Medical Oncology Senior Residency Program at NCIS. He is active in medical education at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, and has been awarded for teaching excellence.
